Anam Hashim…Journey of the youngest female stunt rider!
When ‘Paulo Coelho’ said “the secret of life is to fall seven times and to get up the the eighth time” every girl like Anam proves it right. This 21-year-old female rider proves it well. Anam Hashim is an Indian female professional bike stunt performer and rider. She is the only Indian Stunt Athlete to win an international stunt competition in 2017.She is known as the first woman who had ridden to Khardung La on a TVS Scooty during the Himalayan highs.
Hashim rode almost 2100 km all the way from Jammu to Khardung La top. The world’s highest motorable road on a scooty twice for a TV show. In doing so, she entered the Indian Book of Records as the youngest female rider to scale the Khardung La Pass. She was only 20 years old then.
Is it really difficult being a female stunt rider?
Talking about her struggle, she said that her parents wanted her to study Engineering and had decided to send her to Pune. However, in 2013, she bought the stunt bike and started proceeding toward her goal.Comparing the encouragement this sport receives in the West, she said that it is still less supported in India.
She also recalled the minor injury which she received while she was riding a bike. Luckily, Anam was saved in this accident since she was wearing a helmet. In a country like ours where people still find it unusual when a girl shifts gears and zooms off at a traffic signal. Anam Hashim is breaking all stereotypes one wheelie at a time.
Handle bars over hurdles
Anam also said that there were many hurdles too in her way. However, she overcame all those odds and waited for good opportunity to achieve her goal. As stunt riding is still a male-dominated sport, her family doesn’t say “yes” to her dream career.
Now a professional stunt rider, Hashim did all it could take to convince her parents to back this unusual career option. With immense support from her father, she started doing stunts on motorbikes when she turned 18.
We definitely need people like Anam in our society to encourage us and could make a slight difference with the hurdles of the society.
Just another hopeless writer who whirl feelings into words!
