One of the most beloved Multi Utility Vehicle since 2012, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was recently refreshed four months ago this year after which Maruti Suzuki India has now decided to discard base versions of the Ertiga MPV from its further production and sales followed by direction to its dealers to not to take bookings for the same relating to higher demand for the other variants. Maruti Suzuki India kept itself away from speaking anything about their decision when faced with related questions arising out such issue.

Maruti might be currently exhausting its current stock of Ertiga base versions as dealership sources from the Delhi, Mumbai and 2nd Tier cities confirmed that there are abundant inventories of the Ertiga LXI and LDI variants with dealerships.

As we can observe the removal of the base petrol version of the Ertiga it would also be apparent that the petrol Ertiga will now be offered with an option of Automatic transmission across the range since the base LXI variant was the only spruce where it wasn’t offered. Since the inception of its commercial launch, 30 per cent of sales of the Ertiga credited to the V variants while Z and Z+ variants together represent almost half of the sales.

Such a decision coming out from Maruti Suzuki India might have resulted from its grooming process to bring in a locally developed 1.5-litre diesel engine across its line-up which will replace the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet engine in addition to reduce the waiting period for the higher variants. The commercialization of a bigger engine might have proven to be an extra cost and in-turn would have made the base versions themselves costlier.

Dealers have also shared their idea of Maruti to come up with a Tour variant of the Ertiga to address the armada operators as the current generation Ertiga is not available for commercial use. However, Maruti Suzuki has denied any such development at the present time.
